‘Hexadic I’, was constructed using guitarist Ben Chasny’s (Six Organs of Admittance) unique compositional method called the ‘Hexadic System’. It uses a combination of six note sets (called ‘hexads’) to create melodies. The composer then builds on the ‘hexad’ by adding layers of harmony or accent melodies. What’s truly unique about this process is that the ‘hexads’ are created by arranging shuffled (random) playing cards in a ‘hexadic’ pattern; almost like a game of musical solitaire. Each card’s value represents a position on the guitar’s neck, which a guitarist can then use to build their composition.

❤️My original plan was to go through and buy individual tracks like I do with most compilation albums, but honestly there are just so many good ones that I wound up buying the whole thing. More than simple drones (though there are plenty of those, too), this album collects many of the best and most innovative dark ambient artists in one place, including many who are new to me. A must-have for any dark ambient fan's collection. Plushie Fanatic
